An alternative therapy tool
We all have a monster in our minds. He/She can be overly critical, judgemental, rude, and generally mean.
"Are you sure that's what you want to wear?"
"That was so weird to say!"
"You are so [enter negative adjective]"
"Nobody likes you"
"You are alone"
Instead of running away from it, ignoring it, or avoiding it, I propose we name it and even create a character [enter potential Disney villain's name].
Therapy is about acknowledging this unhelpful part of our minds, and consciously making more productive, helpful thoughts instead of listening to whatever nasty, rude, unhelpful and disrespectful comments it has to make.
This tool has been proven extremely helpful for children, teenagers, and even adults! It is actively used in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
