What can I expect from our first session?

When you arrive at my office, you'll step into a warm and inviting space resembling a comfortable living room. We begin by getting to know each other while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.

During this session, we will delve into your concerns, exploring the challenges you or your child are facing, as well as the goals you hope to achieve. Based on our discussion, we collaboratively develop a tailored plan of action, outlining the steps we will take together to address your specific needs. For more detailed information, I encourage you to read further about the process in the provided resources (read more here and here).

When and where do our sessions take place?

Our sessions can be held either in person at my private office in Aradippou or online, providing flexibility and convenience for your needs. If you choose in-person sessions, you'll find ample free parking available at both the front and back of the building.

Sessions are available from Monday to Friday between 9:00 and 19:00. All sessions are conducted by appointment.

How often does my child need to come?

The frequency of sessions and the number of times your child needs to attend will be tailored to their specific needs. Typically, sessions are scheduled once a week or every two weeks, taking into account your preferences and requirements.

During our initial session, we will have a comprehensive discussion to better understand your child's situation and determine the most suitable approach. Together, we will assess their needs and collaboratively decide on the frequency of sessions that will best support their progress and well-being.

What age groups do you work with?

I primarily work with school-aged children, ranging from approximately 6 years old to late teenage years.

How long does each session last?

Each session is designed to last 50 minutes.

Do you provide assessments or diagnostic evaluations?

As part of my professional services, I specialise in conducting thorough assessments and diagnostic evaluations. These evaluations allow me to gain a deeper understanding of your child's development and provide valuable insights into any difficulties they may be experiencing.

Through a combination of testing, clinical observations, and interviews, I gather the necessary information to create a comprehensive and accurate picture of your child's strengths and areas of challenge. When the evaluation is complete, I collaborate with you to develop a personalised intervention plan that is specifically tailored to address your child's unique needs, empowering them to overcome obstacles and achieve success in various aspects of their life.

Can the services be provided in different languages?

I offer my services in multiple languages to ensure effective communication and understanding. I am fluent in Greek and English, and I also have a strong command of the Swedish language.

How do I prepare my child for your first session?

When it comes to preparing your child for their first session with me, it's important to approach the conversation with simplicity, honesty, and genuineness. Here's some guidance to help you navigate this process:

  1. Keep it simple and straightforward: Explain to your child that you are seeking help for the specific difficulties they are facing. Use simple language and examples they can relate to. For example, "Remember how you've been struggling with XYZ? We are going to see a psychologist who can help us work through those difficulties."

  2. Encourage questions: Be open and receptive to your child's questions and concerns. If there are any questions you can't answer, reassure them that we can discuss those together during our session.

  3. Clarify my role: It's crucial to help your child understand my professional role as a psychologist. Avoid introducing me as a friend or a teacher, as it may create confusion. Instead, explain that I am a trained professional who specialises in helping young children and teenagers cope with emotional and behavioral difficulties. Emphasise that I am here to support your family.

By providing clear and accurate information, you can help alleviate any potential anxiety or uncertainty your child may have about their first session. Rest assured that I am experienced in working with children and teenagers and will create a safe and supportive environment for them to express themselves.

Are you a child psychologist?

Yes, I am a licensed School Psychologist, which is the recognised specialty for working with children and teenagers in Cyprus. While there is no official specialisation in child psychology in Cyprus, School-Educational Psychologists like myself undergo comprehensive training in the areas of child development, psychopathology, and educational psychology. This training equips us with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support the psychological well-being and development of children and teenagers.

It's important to note that Clinical and Counselling Psychologists who have received specialised training in working with children and teenagers can also provide services in this area. Ultimately, the focus is on ensuring that the psychologist has the experience necessary to meet the unique needs of young individuals and their families.

Am I crazy?!

No, not at all! It's important to remember that seeking help from a psychologist or mental health professional does not mean you are "crazy." Mental health is an essential aspect of overall well-being, and just like we take care of our physical health, it's equally important to prioritise our mental and emotional well-being.

Visiting a psychologist or seeking therapy is a proactive step towards addressing any challenges or difficulties you may be facing. It shows strength and self-awareness to recognise when you need support and take action to improve your well-being.

Remember, we all experience ups and downs in life, and it's completely normal to seek guidance and support during those times.

Will the services be covered by GESY?

At this time, unfortunately not. Only some Clinical Psychologists are covered by GESY at the moment.

Do our sessions stay confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of a therapeutic relationship. As a licensed psychologist, I am ethically and legally bound to maintain the confidentiality of all information shared during our sessions.

I adhere to the professional code of ethics and confidentiality guidelines set forth by the Cyprus Professional and Scientific Psychological Association. This means that any information you disclose to me will be kept strictly confidential. I will not share this information with anyone without your explicit consent, except in situations where there is a legal or ethical obligation to disclose information, such as when there is a risk of harm to you, your children, or others. You can read more about it here.

What forms of payment are accepted?

In providing the most flexibility and convenience for you, cash, visa, and bank transfer payments are accepted.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

To ensure that I can provide quality and timely services to all my clients, I have a cancellation policy in place. I kindly ask for a minimum of 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel our session. This allows me to offer the appointment slot to another client who may be in need. I invite you to read my cancellation policy outlined here.

During our first session, we will discuss this policy in detail, along with any other administrative matters. I understand that unexpected circumstances may arise, and I am always open to discussing individual situations and finding the best possible solution.

If you have more specific questions for a psychologist, I hope this post can help!

If you're ready to take the next step and schedule an appointment, I'm here to assist you. You can reach out to me either by phone or email, and we can arrange a convenient time for our session.
