Chores list for various age groups

Following my last week’s blog post about the power of chores, here's a list of age-appropriate chores for each age group:

Ages 3-5:

  • Tidying up toys and books

  • Putting clothes in the laundry basket

  • Wiping spills with a cloth

  • Feeding pets (under supervision)

  • Sorting socks

Ages 6-8:

  • Making their bed

  • Setting the table for meals

  • Clearing the table after meals

  • Watering plants

  • Folding simple laundry items

  • Dusting low surfaces

Ages 9-11:

  • Sweeping the floor

  • Vacuuming

  • Emptying trash bins

  • Helping with meal preparation (under supervision)

  • Putting away groceries

  • Washing dishes (with supervision)

Ages 12-14:

  • Cleaning bathrooms

  • Mowing the lawn (with supervision)

  • Washing the car (with supervision)

  • Babysitting younger siblings (under appropriate conditions)

  • Washing and folding laundry

  • Packing their own school bag

Ages 15-18:

  • Cooking simple meals

  • Grocery shopping (with supervision)

  • Managing personal finances (under guidance)

  • Yard work and gardening

  • Organizing and decluttering their own space

  • Planning and completing homework assignments

These are general guidelines and should be adjusted based on your child's abilities and maturity level.
