Coaching and therapy: they’re not that different

Whereas coaching is seen as personal development that is done with pride (and even boasting about it), therapy is the opposite. People are often ashamed to admit they need therapy, or they are going to therapy.

Whereas therapy is an extremely private experience, that you absolutely do not need to share with the world, the stigma that still revolves around it saddens me deeply.

Think about it though: therapy is like coaching … only more and more!

Business coaching is something that you do to improve your business because you love it, you prioritise it, and you see it as important, worth spending extra money on, and devoting your time to it. Generally, business coaching is something quite positive right?

Life coaching is also seen as something you do because you value yourself and you want to improve your life. Also something positive!

But replace “coaching” with “therapy”, “counselling” or “psychologist” and the idea of it changes completely!

What if seeing a psychologist to help improve your quality of life, work, school, relationships, and mental health, to increase your self-acceptance, and resilience, or overcome past traumas was perceived as something positive too?

Yes, what I’m proposing is: what if therapy was the best kind of self-care you could give yourself?

Think about it, your relationship with your psychologist is one where someone is on your side 100% of the time, with zero judgment, zero advice, zero telling you what to do, and no hidden agenda! 100% focus on you and your needs! Isn’t that wonderful? What is so scary about that?
